Writer Leaves on Book Tour, Brings Cache of Goodies With Him

Well, guys, this is it. I’m not leaving until Saturday morning, but seeing as tomorrow I will be spending all day at printing companies getting bookmarks made,

and a RiotLit poster mounted and prepared for the 2,000 mile journey, with which I will promote our incredible collective, I’m not going to have time for shit other than freaking out and wearing holes into my facial hair as a result of incessant rubbing due to nerves and whatnot. But back to the actual book tour itself:

I’ll not only have bookmarks and t-shirts for the taking, but most importantly I’ll also have copies of not only FUTUREPROOF, but also FOUR other RiotLit members’ books: Brad Listi, Daniels Scott Buck, Jeremy Robert Johnson and Kristopher Young.

Best of all, I’ll be GIVING AWAY all these books from the other members. If you want mine you gotta pay. I have to eat, you know. This is not to mention that I’m known to show up at a reading completely shit-faced and belligerent, though to kind of allay any fears you might have, I’ve never been known to strip naked and throw my feces at bystanders ala GG Allin.

Anyway, I’ve gotta run out and get my oil changed, my tires rotated, and somehow make that clanging sound my ’96 Toyota makes every time I hit a bump to cease and desist. Barring any clanging-cum-transmission-falling-out-in-the-middle-of-the-highway-in-bumfuck-Ohio horror stories, I’ll be seeing all of you real soon.

Sad side note: for the first time ever I’m going to miss one of my kids’ birthdays. My daughter is turning six next Wednesday (Oct. 4th). She’s a fairy, a princess and a mermaid. Oh, and a cat, too.

We’re throwing her a party at a gymnastics center tomorrow night, so that at least I’ll be able to share that with her. *Sigh.* I guess nothing awesome comes without a little tinge of regret. Please, everyone, if you can remember, wish my little girl a happy birthday on my Myspace page comments section next Wednesday. Then she’d know that all her daddy’s friends were rooting for her as well.

Calling All Flier Bombers

OK guys, this is the final stage in making the 2006 FUTUREPROOF book tour a raging success (besides actually showing up at the readings, of course). Below you will find clickable links to the fliers custom-created for each city and venue by my indestructible webmaster and designer Ryan Scott.

Here’s the deal on the links: Each thumbnailed flier is city-specific. So if you are going to flier-bomb Columbia (the first reading this coming Saturday), just click on the Columbia pic and a ready-made word document will open with the image right on it. When you click “print” a wrning message is going to pop up saying that the document has margins that fall outside the printable range, but that’s bullshit. Just click “ok” and it will print out perfectly.

Now, I don’t expect you guys to waste all your ink and toner on printing up a hundred or even 200 of these. But I figure, since they are all one color (b&w–except for the NYC flier), they should be pretty cheap to copy at Kinko’s. *I WILL REIMBURSE YOU THE COPY COSTS.* All I ask is that you message or email me first before you go printing up 10,000 of these because I don’t want to arrive in Philly and have 15 people telling me that I owe $15 a piece. So if you live in a dorm and are just going to print out 5 or ten to put up around your lounge, great, otherwise MAKE SURE YOU CONTACT ME FIRST if you are going to get all badass militant and glue these on every stop sign, empty wall and bus stop in your fair city. Just have to make sure I’ll be able to do what I say and pay you guys for your hard work. All I need is a reciept, and due to the large amount of fliers going out it’s probably going to be limited to 6-10 people putting up large numbers.

LITPARK: I Got A New Place To Yell About Stuff

During my travels (mainly internet ones, granted, but that’s still kind of like actually traveling because you run into so many new and interesting people all the time and can see some crazy shit here that no one would ever believe unless you could actually give them a link to it–and on the ‘net you can…so in that way it’s actually better to be well-internet traveled. Yes, I’m trying to make myself feel better about my status as a virtual shut-in.), I’ve come across so many incredible people that I can’t express accurately how much my life has been changed by them. And every once in a while someone comes along who really just ratchets up the level of awesomeness another ten or fifteen notches. Most recently that super-ratcheter has been one Susan Henderson.

Susan’s a very special lady because not only does she completely see eye-to-eye with me on so many publishing industry-realted issues, but more importantly because she is well-connected within the industry and yet…THAT DOESN’T MATTER. Yes, Sue Henderson, despite possibly risking some of her clout, speaks her heart and lets others who have something to say have a place to say it. She is world-fucking-class. And she just recently launched her new literary blog. It’s called LitPark: Where Writers Come to Play. Litpark is chock full of goodness. She has all kinds of incredible writers coming by all the time to talk about everything under the sun. And they aren’t just no-names like yours truly. She’s had Neil Gaiman. Need I say more? NEIL GAIMAN. And now she’s offered to deal with me, and all of you every month, for my new column, FRANK DANIELS’ LIT RIOT. So check it out and spread the word, by all means. This is another giant step in making publishing bend to our endless, relentless will.

I’m Selling A Bunch of My Stuff On eBay To Support My Book Tour

Just saw the most kickass article. Seems one of our brothers-in-arms over in the U.K., guerilla graffiti artist BANKSY, has hijacked a bunch of Paris Hilton’s new CDs, replacing the pictures on the sleeve and even the tracks on the CD with his own deliciously evil shit. According to the London Independent, “In place of Ms Hilton’s bubble-gum pop songs, the CDs feature Banksy’s own rudimentary compositions. On the cover of the doctored CD, Ms Hilton’s dress has been digitally repositioned to reveal her bare breasts; on an inside photo, her head has been replaced with that of her dog. On the back cover, the original song titles have been replaced with a list of questions: ‘Why am I famous?’, ‘What have I done?’ and ‘What am I for?’ Inside the accompanying booklet, a picture of the heiress emerging from a luxury car has been retouched to include a group of homeless people.”

Now that’s what I call BADASS, and I aspire to this kind of social commentary and action. But I need your help.
